(Kodie Conner getting strapped into his new look #45 Super Late Model)
Dillon, South Carolina (February 5, 2017) – Misfortune found Kodie Conner just past the one-quarter mark of Saturday afternoon’s season opening Winter Meltdown 200 for the Pro All Stars Series at Dillon Motor Speedway. Conner ended up with a 21st place finish after just 51 laps completed.
The weekend began with an optional practice day on Friday for the first event of the 2017 season for the KCR team. Conner had unveiled his new wrap for the season just a few days before with the familiar tiger stripes on the sides. Friday found the team making gains each session out and Conner was so happy with the speed and handling of the car that they parked early.
Race day greeted the team with arctic cold and ended up with Conner qualifying in 18th place among the 25-car field after the car was a little loose with the different track conditions.
Conner received his 2016 PASS Rookie of the Year honors trophy in prerace ceremonies and was optimistic about the race after he finished a close second in the event last March.
After a few short green flag runs that were interrupted by cautions, Conner had begun working his way forward. However as he came off turn 2 the rear wheels were lifted off the ground by a rookie driver behind him, which caused Conner to lose control and hit the inside wall by turn three rather hard. Conner was unhurt, but the same could not be said for the brand new car the team worked all offseason to prepare from scratch.
The team is not chasing the 2017 Pro All Stars Series championship and will instead focus on different marque events across the region throughout the year. The next scheduled race is March 4th at Southern National Motorsports Park located in Kenly, NC.
